This adapter supports both SFF-8644 (SlimSAS) and SFF-8645 (Mini-SAS) cables, allowing you to use existing cables in your infrastructure. The SlimSAS 8i offers up to 2x the performance of its previous generation with the support of 16Gb/s per lane in 4x Gen3 lanes or 32Gb/s per lane in 2x Gen4 lanes, which can help reduce latency for high-speed data transfer applications such as virtualization and video surveillance.
The SlimSAS 8i is ideal for use within blade servers where space is limited but still requires high-performance storage connectivity. It's also great for servers with multiple internal drives that need additional external connection options like e-SATA or SAS external drive enclosures through the two ports on the rear panel of the motherboard. The SlimSAS 8i supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 modes and features a PCIe Gen3 x8 host interface with up to 32Gb/s bandwidth per lane or 64 Gb/s total bandwidth.
